Fancy Pants....
So….I bought some pants. Yep…pants. Sound boring?
I mean, people buy pants everyday, right? I often buy pants. Black ones, khaki ones, or jeans. I kind of live in jeans. My pants collection is…..well boring. Pants are definitely an area where I stay within my comfort zone. And quite frankly, I’m a little over staying in my comfort zone!
So one Saturday morning at around 11.00am my husband realises he was meant to be at a seminar which started at 3.00pm. In Melbourne. At exactly the same time this realisation hit him, my little sister, who lives three and a half hours away, texts me. “I have 3 hours to kill in Melbourne. Want to meet me at Highpoint?” Smiley face, as if to say “as if you will do that”. Took 2 seconds to respond with… “See you at 2!” And off we flew.
Stressed husband, excited wife!! Spontaneity had hit our household! I was super excited to: 1. See my sister 2. Get out of house work and 3. Shop. Definitely in that order.
Now my little sister and I have similar tastes when it comes to clothes. We often turn up in each others wardrobe saying…” I have that, that and that!” That’s not unusual. We have also rocked up to events wearing the exact same outfit. We differ on some things (like anchovies, GROSS) but our wardrobes are very similar. She is a bit bolder than me which is why I LOVE shopping with her…she pushes me out of my comfort zone.
I had seen these pants. Printed in a bold design. Wide leg. They are pants for the confident. The outrageous. Not pants for me, even though deep down, I liked them! But I brushed them aside. I took them off the rack, decided they were too outrageous for me, and quietly put them back, envying the one who bought them. The print is gorgeous, but I just stick with black, khaki or denim. These were “statement” pants and I prefer to own “whisper” pants.
But guess what? My sister had bought them! And she had sent me a photo. She rocked those pants!
So while she was with me, she encouraged me to try them on. Helped that they were half price! So off I went. I put those pants on and made a statement! They are bold! They are outrageous! And I liked them. Did I mention they were half price? Cha Ching. Bought them!
Will everyone like them? Probably not. Will people shake their head at my lovely, loud pants? Probably! Will I care. Nope. Because somewhere on the Mornington Peninsula, one of my favourite chicks will also be rocking those crazy pants. And I’m telling you now…she won’t care what other people think! She will OWN that “out there” look. And so will I.
Moral of this blog. WEAR WHAT YOU LOVE. Who cares what other people think! I didn’t think I could wear such pants. WHO SAID? I also don’t think I can wear gorgeous big earrings. WHO SAID? I mean…..why does that stupid little voice in OUR head tell us such stupidity?? And why do we listen? I was speaking to a very lovely, wise woman the other day and we spoke about worrying too much about what other people think. As she said, most of us are worrying about our own lives…..all concentrating on getting through each day, thinking about what needs to be done in our very own household. Most of us simply don’t have the time or energy to waste thinking about whether another woman’s pants have big flowers all over them! And if someone has the energy to come up with a nasty comment, then it says something about their own life!
I wore my pants to my work Christmas party the other night and no one seemed to notice my totally amazing, outrageous, ridiculously loud pants. Which makes me think….maybe they are not that loud and crazy. Just a little bit fancy!
So if you see me in “those” pants (and you won’t be able to miss me) just nod, wink or high five me. And go find yourself some crazy, fancy pants!
Love,
Cherie with a C
